O-541861, Flight Crew, Bombardier (1035) DiDomenico's Crew
"HEAVENLY BODY"
Stationed at Fenton and Darwin Australia. He went
on 37 missions. He received the DFC, and Air Medal with 4 oak leaf clusters.
The crew which flew on the Heavenly Body, B-24 during 1944 This crew along
with 4 other planes received the DFC on the B-24, Heavenly Body for a
mission on April 23, 1944, which was the biggest air battle of the 380th Bomb
Group. This formation was attacked by twenty Japanese fighter planes and shot
down 11 of them. All five bombers returned safely to their airfield with only
one man getting KIA.

THE BOMBARDIER'S OATH
Mindful of the secret trust about to be placed in me by my Commander in
Chief, the President of the United States, by whose direction I have
been chosen for bombardier training...and mindful of the fact that I am
to become guardian of one of my country's most priceless military
assets, the American bombsight...I do here, in the presence of Almighty
God, swear by the Bombardier's Code of Honor to keep inviolate the
secrecy of any and all confidential information revealed to me, and
further to uphold the honor and integrity of the Army Air Forces, if
need be, with my life itself. |

Richard "Dick" Ebbeson was an aircraft armorer and the squadron
artist for the 528th Bomb Squadron. Born on 29th April 1912, of
Scandinavian parentage, Ebbeson grew up in Bangor, Maine. He was
initially deployed, with the 380th, in May 1943 and was a corporal
for much of his service time at Fenton, Australia & New Guinea -
promoted to sergeant on 9th September 1945. In March 1946, after
hostilities had ceased, Dick Ebbeson married an Australian girl and
they returned to live in Pembroke, Maine. Dick painted all his adult
life until he died at the end of October 2001.
